The 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) was held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, from November 30 to December 12.

During the event, Syngenta Group, along with over 200 other enterprises, endorsed the Call to Action on Transforming Food Systems for People, Nature, and Climate (CTA). This initiative, developed by the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions, aims to mobilize collective efforts around a shared vision of food systems. It seeks to make substantial advancements in addressing climate change by 2030 while also prioritizing the well-being of people and nature.

Syngenta Group's low-carbon wheat was featured in the 2023 Business Climate Action Cases, highlighting the company's efforts in addressing climate change and adopting a green and low-carbon approach. This recognition was announced during the conference.

Starting from August 2022, Syngenta Group has been working in collaboration with Chinese agricultural and food companies to establish a demonstration base for recyclable agriculture in Huantai county, Shandong Province. The goal of this partnership is to promote the cultivation of low-carbon wheat on farms.

In 2023, the per mu yield of low-carbon wheat planted in Huantai county surpassed local wheat varieties by 7.5 percent, while emitting 32 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to the same local wheat varieties.

The Paris Agreement on climate change requires a 67-percent reduction in agricultural greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. By then, global demand for food is expected to increase by over 50 percent. Syngenta Group will focus on three main approaches - soil health, agricultural digital innovation, and biotechnology - to better address the increasing global demands for agricultural emissions reduction and food production expansion.
